Rabbi Aaron and Miriam Greenberg began their work as OU-JLIC educators in the Summer of 2008! They are blessed with five children: Tzvi, Nediva, Ezra, Yair and Gila. Both Rabbi Aaron and Miriam are natives of Toronto, and work at York University, University of Toronto and Toronto Metropolitan University. Rabbi Aaron Greenberg was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. After graduating from Yeshivat Or Chaim (’93), he spent a year and a half studying in Yeshivat Shilo. Rabbi and Rebbetzin Greenberg are crucial role models in the Toronto Jewish community. They are responsible for so many young people maintaining and enhancing their frum lifestyle while in University and beyond! I personally feel a tremendous sense of Hakaras Hatov towards the Greenbergs for the impact they have had on my life.
Rabbi and Rebbitzin Greenberg are vital to both Jewish life on campus and to our community. They are constantly working so hard to inspire the students and provide such essential services like halachik guidance, programming, and meals. They are always available when you need to speak to them. They are pillars in our community and we are lucky to have them!
I feel the greatest contributions of JLIC is building connections with like minded Jewish students and giving them a sense of comfort on a campus where they may feel like an outsider.
Rabbi greenberg has been a critical source of guidance and advice for me throughout my time in University. He was available to learn one-on-one with me twice a week, and he gave several other Shiurim throughout the week which I attended regularly. He always promptly and clearly answered shailos, and gave advice on whatever issues I was having. He ensured se had minyanim on campus during the week and he ran the jlic minyan every shabbos.
When October 7th first happened I was really nervous to be on campus or even raise my hand in class. JLIC served as a safe space for me and just knowing I could go to Hillel and be among Jews was such a huge deal.
I love how JLIC has helped us grow and grew programs with us. I participated in many events with JLIC while I was in university and built a close connection with the Rabbi and Rebbetzin. They were our chosson and kallah teachers as well and guided myself and my husband through getting married and beyond. Now as a young family I love that there are programs within the community as well.
I regularly reach out to my JLIC directors for halachic guidance and life advice. I always feel welcome in their home and often spend Shabbat meals with their family. They work hard to ensure there are Jewish activities on campus and for the young professionals in the community. I don’t feel my Jewish social life or Judaism is lacking in my secular university activities and that is likely entirely due to their efforts.
They are very observant but also down to earth and extremely accepting of any and all Jews. I feel comfortable to be myself, and inspired to be a better version of me.
Every year connected to Judaism is a beautiful experience, and at times a difficult decision. The people who inspire me to work at it play a big role in my continued growth.
I think their weekly shiurim and opportunities to learn and connect with other Jews is essential. I also find the constant availability of our directors to answer questions and provide support to be an invaluable resource for us as students.
Coming back from a year in Israel, yearning for in person mentors and I was blessed to be put in touch with the Greenbergs who have been by my side ever since. Providing me with opportunities to grow, learn, be part of a community, find jobs in the Jewish community and support me in every way possible.
I have been involved in both JLIC of Toronto and of Queens College and both the Greenberg's and Brukirer's have always been there for anything I may have needed.
